Trailblazers Complete Series Sweep of Colorado Christian on Senior Day Sunday

Dixie State won its fifth-straight and completed its third RMAC series sweep of the year with an 8-2 triumph over Colorado Christian on Senior Day Sunday at Bruce Hurst Field. With the victory, the Trailblazers improved to 32-14 on the season, 22-10 in RMAC play.

After giving up the game's first run with two outs in the CCU (12-33/7-25 RMAC) fourth, Dixie State plated five runs in the home half of the frame to race to a 5-1 lead. Senior infielder Wyatt Branch got the Trailblazers on the board with a two-run single to right center, while Braxton Ipson connected for his fourth home run of the season, a towering three-run blast over the right center field wall, to give DSU a four-run cushion.

The Blazers then struck for two more runs with two outs in the fifth on a run-scoring triple from Jake Brown, who would scamper home five pitches later on a Branch double.

The run support was more than enough for junior righthander Brayden Bonner (W, 3-1) as he and five relievers limited the Cougars to just three hits and one run over the final five innings of play to close out the sweep. Bonner, who started the season as DSU's closer, struck out three and scattered six hits and one run over 4.2 innings of work to earn his third victory of the year.

Branch made the most of his final career home start as he went 2-for-4 at the plate with a career-best three RBI, while Jake Engel collected two hits and two scored as DSU finished with nine safeties in the game.

Dixie State, which is currently third in the conference standings, will close out the 2019 regular season with a four-game RMAC showdown at current No. 1/No. 6 Colorado Mesa next weekend, May 2-4, in Grand Junction.
