Trailblazers Top Regis to Clinch Series Win on Saturday, 13-4

Junior righthander Preston Hannay fired six innings of one-hit shutout baseball, while the Trailblazer offense pounded out 14 hits, as Dixie State posted a 13-4 series-clinching win over Regis on Saturday afternoon at Bruce Hurst Field. DSU took three of four from the Rangers in the four-game set to improve to 28-14 overall, 18-10 in RMAC play.

Hannay (W, 5-3) faced two batters over the minimum through his first five innings of work, surrendering just a two-out Mickey Meinhofer single in the third inning, while the junior struck out four with no walks and three hit batters on the day.

While Hannay kept the Ranger (13-28/8-20 RMAC) offense in check, the Trailblazers scored all 13 of their runs over a four-inning stretch, starting with two runs in the third coming on a two-out single from Cade Spurlin. DSU tacked on three more runs in the third thanks to a two-out Regis error and a two-run Tyler Hollow base hit.

Lane Pritchard accounted for two more Dixie State runs in the fifth on a two-out single to center that brought home Spurlin, who led off the frame with a double to right field. Pritchard then stole second and third on consecutive pitches, and scampered home on an errant throw by the Ranger catcher.

DSU put the game away with a decisive six-run sixth inning, highlighted by a three-run, opposite field home run off the bat of Tyson Fisher, which was the freshman's seventh homer of the season. Hollow, Jagun Leavitt and Braxton Ipson also collected RBI-hits as DSU sent 12 batters to the plate in the stanza.

Pritchard led the Blazer offense with three hits in three at bats to go with his RBI, two steals and three runs scored. Meanwhile Hollow, Spurlin, Leavitt and Ipson all finished with two hits apiece.

Dixie State will close out its 2019 regular season home slate next weekend, April 26-28, with a four-game RMAC series vs. Colorado Christian at Bruce Hurst Field.
