Women’s Tennis drops home finale to Portland State

The Dixie State women's tennis team dropped its home finale to Portland State on Saturday, falling 6-1 at the Trailblazer Tennis Courts.
 
Portland State swept the three doubles matches to open the match, but the Trailblazers (10-4) would not give up the point easily. Hattie Erekson and Juliana Honczaruk battled at No. 3 doubles, but dropped a 7-6 decision in a tiebreaker. Meanwhile, Yolena Carlon and Isabel Heras took the No. 1 match to the brink, but fell 7-5.
 
Honczaruk rallied for the only DSU point of the match during singles play. After dropping a 6-2 decision in the first set at No. 5 singles, Honczaruk fought to a 7-6 win in the second set. Honczaruk then played to a 10-6 win in a tiebreaker to win the match.
 
Dixie State will travel to Grand Junction, Colorado, next Saturday for a non-conference matchup against Colorado Mesa. The Trailblazers will return to Grand Junction the following week for the 2019 RMAC Tournament.
