Trailblazers roll past UC Santa Cruz Sunday, 8-1

The Dixie State women's tennis team closed its California trip in style on Sunday and rolled to an 8-1 defeat of UC Santa Cruz.
 
Playing by Division III scoring rules, the Trailblazers (9-2) took two out of three doubles matches to build a 2-1 lead heading to singles play. Kyra Harames and Megan Lynch set the tone in doubles play with an 8-3 win at No. 2, while Yolena Carlon and Isabel Heras battled to an 8-7 triumph at No. 1.
 
Dixie State swept the singles matches to complete the win. Lynch picked up the first singles win with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph at No. 4, while Elly Lloyd prevailed with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5. Carlon posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 1, Harames earned a 6-1, 6-1 result at No. 2, Heras recorded a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3, and Erekson locked up the final point with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 6.
 
With the win, the Trailblazers finished their northern California trip with a 3-1 record and improved on their program-best start, pushing their current record to 9-2.
 
Dixie State will travel to Colorado next week for crucial Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference contests against CSU-Pueblo and MSU Denver.
