Trailblazers fall in exhibition matchup at Utah State Monday, 61-49

Dixie State women's basketball took a break from regular-season action on Monday, dropping a 61-49 exhibition matchup to Utah State at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum in Logan, Utah.

The Trailblazers turned a 15-2 deficit early in the first quarter into a 26-22 lead midway through the second quarter with a 24-7 run. Chesney Stevens and Breaunna Gillen sparked the run with a layup and a jumper in the paint for DSU's first field goals of the contest. Later, Keslee Stevenson added five consecutive points with a triple and a jumper. Stevenson drained a second 3-pointer later in the run while Madi Loftus added six points. The teams traded baskets over the final seven minutes of the first half before playing to a 36-36 tie at the break.

Dixie State went cold in the second half, converting on just 21 percent (4-of-19) of field goal attempts over the final two quarters as the Aggies pulled away for the 61-49 victory.

The Trailblazers shot 34 percent (18-of-52) from the field, 27 percent (5-of-18) from 3-point range, and 100 percent (8-of-8) from the free throw line. Stevenson led all scorers with 18 points on 4-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc, while Gillen added 12 points and four rebounds.

DSU will return to RMAC play this weekend, hosting South Dakota Mines on Friday and Black Hills State on Saturday.
