Dixie State closed out the 2019 regular season with a 3-0 sweep at in-state rival Westminster College, 25-18, 25-14, 25-21, Friday night inside the Behnken Fieldhouse. With the win, the Trailblazers' seventh in their last eight matches overall, DSU (19-7/14-4 RMAC) clinched the No. 3 overall seed in next week's Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament.
Senior
To'a Faleao tallied a match-high 14 kills to go with nine digs and two block assists. The senior also moved into first place on DSU's single season aces list (48) with the first of two second-set aces.
Meanwhile, junior
Megan Treanor just missed her fourth triple-double of the year with 11 kills (.391 H%), a game-high 17 assists and eight digs. Treanor also tallied a co-match high four total blocks (one solo), while junior
Sai Collins and sophomore
Miranda Ekblad (.417 H%) finished with six kills apiece, and senior
Lauren Gammell collected five kills and four block assists.
Dixie State threw down 50 kills and hit .303 on the night, including a .389 clip with 20 kills in the opening set. DSU's defense limited Westminster (5-21/2-16 RMAC) to a .137 hitting percentage and 29 kills, and out-blocked the Griffins by an 8.0-4.0 count.
Dixie State will host No. 6 seed CSU-Pueblo in the RMAC Tournament quarterfinal round this Tuesday night, Nov. 19, inside the DSU SAC beginning at 7 p.m. DSU defeated CSU-P by a 3-1 count (25-20, 23-25, 25-17, 25-18) on the Trailblazers' Senior Night back on Nov. 2.
The winner of that match will advance on to the conference semifinals and finals, which will be held Nov. 22-23, at the home site of the highest remaining seed.
