Dixie State won its fourth-straight and its third-in-a-row on its current homestand Friday night as the Trailblazers posted a straight-set win over New Mexico Highlands inside the DSU SAC. The Blazers have won eight of their last nine overall to improve to 16-6 on the season, 11-3 in RMAC play.
DSU led wire-to-wire in taking set one, 25-20, but came out a little flat in the second frame and trailed 8-4 in the early going. However the Trailblazers battled back to square the set at 9-9, then rattled off a decisive 16-6 run en route to a 25-15 set win to go up 2-0 in the match.
The Cowgirls (1-21/0-14 RMAC) bolted out to another quick lead in the third stanza, scoring eight of the first nine points to race to an 8-1 advantage. Again the Trailblazers would rally, outscoring NMHU 11-4 to pull even at 12-12, and would close the match with a 13-6 spurt to claim the set, 25-18.
Dixie State hit a season-high .410 for the match with 42 kills and just eight attack errors. Junior
Megan Treanor led the Blazers with nine kills, 17 assists and three aces, while senior
Lauren Gammell tallied eight kills with three block assists, including her 400
th-career total block in the second set. Senior
To'a Faleao added seven kills with five digs and three total blocks, and junior
Jordyn Nelson dished out 16 assists with three aces and seven digs.
DSU held Highlands to a .225 hitting percentage and 32 kills, thanks to 29 digs and six total team blocks. Freshman
Mykenna Nelson led DSU with 10 digs.
Dixie State will wrap up its 2019 home slate vs. CSU-Pueblo on Senior Night Saturday beginning at 6 p.m.
