Dixie State picked up its third RMAC home sweep of the 2019 season with a convincing 3-0 result over Westminster College Tuesday night inside the DSU SAC.
Playing at home for the first time after a grueling four-match conference road swing, the Trailblazers (10-5/5-2 RMAC) started off slow as the Griffins raced out to a quick 10-5 in the opening frame. Following a timeout, DSU came to life, thanks to a kill from
Miranda Ekblad, who also rattled off two services aces, as part of quick 4-0 spurt that cut the Westminster lead to 10-9.
Dixie State continued to ride the momentum shift as the Blazers wound up outscoring Westminster (3-12/0-7 RMAC) 10-4 to take its first lead of the night at 15-14. DSU would push that advantage to as many as six before settling for a 25-20 set win. The Trailblazers then used a pair of mid-set runs in each of the next two sets, including a decisive 10-2 rally in the third stanza, to post matching 25-18 scores to complete the sweep.
To'a Faleao led the charge for Dixie State with a match-high 12 kills along with nine digs and two blocks assists, while Ekblad finished with three aces to go with a career-high eight kills and three total blocks.
Sydney Johnson added nine kills with eight digs,
Jordyn Nelson notched her fifth double-double with 26 assists and 11 digs, and
Mykenna Nelson just missed her first double-double as she tallied 14 digs with a career-best eight assists and three aces.
Dixie State hit .252 for the match with 46 kills, while the Blazer defense limited the Griffins to a .099 attack percentage and 25 kills.
Dixie State continues its RMAC homestand on Friday night when the Trailblazers welcome in UCCS to the DSU SAC. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
