Dixie State played arguably its most balanced game of the season Friday night as the Trailblazers rolled past Colorado Christian, 84-48, inside the CCU Events Center. The victory was also Jon Judkins' 250th career win as DSU head coach.

In a complete reversal from DSU's previous two outings, the Trailblazers (6-8/4-6 RMAC) bolted out the gate with 13-straight points on their way to a commanding 21-3 lead nine-plus minutes into the game.

Jack Pagenkopf opened the scoring with a 3-pointer, while Matt Conway poured in nine quick points, and Julien Ducree struck for consecutive lay-ups in his first DSU start. Dub Price then capped the run with back-to-back baskets, including a 3-pointer that gave DSU its 18-point cushion.

Dixie State's defense stymied the Cougars (3-13/1-9 RMAC) in the early going as CCU missed on its first nine field goal attempts before Stefan Hackethal scored in the paint nearly six minutes in.

The Trailblazers never saw its lead dip below 13 points the rest of the period, matching the 18-point spread at 29-11 after a Cameron Chatwin bucket, before settling for a 34-17 cushion at the halftime break. DSU limited Colorado Christian to just 4-of-28 (.143) from the floor, with three of those makes coming from beyond the arc.

DSU extended to a 20-point lead to open the second half thanks to conventional 3-point plays from Ducree and Conway, which bookended a Hackenthal trey, with the Conway conversion giving the Blazers a 40-20 advantage.

CCU would pull to within 15 points on a couple of occasions. However the Dixie State put the game away with a 14-5 run to turn a 53-38 lead into a 67-43 bulge after a Conway steal and bucket as the Blazers cruised from there to their most lopsided victory of the season. 

Conway led all scorers with 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting to go with a team-high six rebounds, while Ducree scored nine of his 13 points after halftime. Quincy Mathews added a season-high 10 points and five rebounds, and Chatwin finished with 10 points as 11 of the 12 Trailblazers who saw action on the night scored.

Dixie State shot 52.7 percent (29-of-55) from the floor, which was bolstered by a sizzling 18-of-24 clip (.750) in the second half, and included a 7-of-13 (.538) effort from the perimeter. DSU also went 19-of-28 (.679) from the line and outrebounded the Cougars 41-34.

While the offense enjoyed a solid night, the Trailblazer defense shined in limiting the Cougars to just 14-of-56 (.250) from the field, 6-of-28 from beyond the arc (.214), and forced 18 CCU turnovers, which led to 18 Dixie State points. Jeremiah Hanson was the lone Cougar in double figures with 11 points.

Dixie State will head to Denver to face Regis (11-5/8-2 RMAC) Saturday night. Tip-off is slated for 5 p.m.
