Dixie State broke five school records and combined to post 17 total top marks through the first two days of the 2018 Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference Championships at the Splash Aquatics Center.
DSU currently stands in 10
th-place overall in the 13-team field with 174 points. UC San Diego leads Fresno Pacific, 603-493, after two days of swimming and diving competition, followed by Cal State East Bay (403.5 pts) in third, Azusa Pacific (400 pts) in fourth and Pepperdine (265.5 pts) rounds out the top five.
The Trailblazers opened the meet Wednesday night with a bang as DSU combined to break four school records. Sophomore
Katie Pack (Spanish Fork, Utah/Spanish Fork HS) broke her own 1000-yard freestyle standard with a 21
st-place time of 10:42.69, while freshman
Shelby Graves (American Fork, Utah/American Fork HS ) followed in 26
th-place at 10:59.93, which is the fourth-fastest time in program history.
Three more records fell in the relay races, starting with the 200 medley relay as the tandem of
Anna Ward (Signal Mountain, Tenn./Girls Preparatory School),
Hannah Hansen (Lehi, Utah/Lehi HS),
Audrey Parrish (Wenatchee, Wash./Wenatchee HS) and
Miriam Gonzalez (Murrieta, Calif./Vista Murrieta HS) placed seventh overall with a record time of 1:46.58. Meanwhile in the 800 free relay, the Trailblazers finished ninth with a school record time of 7:52.16. Freshman
Megan Ruppenthal (Goodyear, Ariz./Desert Edge HS) swam the opening 200 yard leg in a record time of 1:54.63, while Graves,
Hannah Bodkin (Salem, Ore./West Salem HS) and Parrish brought DSU home with a new school mark.
Day two of competition on Thursday saw one more record fall and eight top-10 all-time marks posted. Hansen shattered the 200 IM record by more than five seconds with a final heat time of 2:06.07 to place 13
th-overall. In addition, Gonzalez notched DSU's first individual top-10 event finish with a seventh-place showing in the 50 free at 24.20 (#5 all-time), while she also recorded the second-fastest 50 free mark in program history with a prelim time of 24.05.
The Trailblazers also collected their third top-10 relay finish as the 200 free relay team of
Phebe James (Heber City, Utah/Wasatch HS),
McKenna Fowler (Saratoga Springs, Utah/Westlake HS), Parrish and Gonzalez combined for an eighth-place time of 1:38.61.
Dixie State will look to climb up the standings on day three of competition Friday, which begins with preliminary rounds at 9:30 a.m. (PT).
