Men's Soccer Slips Past Dominican, 1-0

Trailblazers win 12th-straight and move one step closer to first-ever PacWest title

Dixie State moved one step closer to clinching its first-ever Pacific West Conference title as the Trailblazers won their 12-straight match with a 1-0 result vs. Dominican University Saturday night at Dixie High School.

DSU (12-3-0/10-0-0 PacWest) got on the board midway through the 21st-minute when freshman Moises Medina (Mesquite, Nev./Virgin Valley HS) and sophomore Gabby Medina (Mesquite, Nev./Virgin Valley HS) combined to play a ball through the box to sophomore Dominic Damato (Las Vegas, Nev./Shadow Ridge HS), who then tucked home his first collegiate goal of the year from 3-yards out to stake the Trailblazers to their one-goal advantage.

Dominican had a chance at the equalizer late in the 60th-minute as the Penguins were awarded a penalty kick. However senior goalkeeper Bradley Trella (Chandler, Ariz./Chandler HS) was up to the task as he made a diving save to his right to stop the Penguin try and keep Dominican off the board.

Dixie State had its chances to extend the lead as Hunter Ketterer (Heber City, Utah/Wasatch HS), Blake Damato (Las Vegas, Nev./Shadow Ridge HS) and Ather Dawood (Tucson, Ariz.) all had shots on frame, but were turned away. Meanwhile, the Trailblazer defense held the Penguins to just two total shots over the final 30 minutes of regulation to salt away the victory.

DSU outshot Dominican 17-7, including a 7-3 edge on goal. Trella stopped all three Penguin shots on goal en route to his 13th career shutout result and his ninth shutout win overall.

Dixie State returns to action this Monday afternoon with a PacWest match vs. Notre Dame de Namur at Legend Solar Stadium beginning at 1 p.m. DSU owns a one and a half game lead on Concordia-Irvine (9-2-0; will play at DSU Thursday) with three home matches left in the regular season.
