Men's Soccer Blanks Academy of Art on Record-Setting Night Saturday

Trella becomes DSU's career ShO leader as the first-place Trailblazers break program record with 11th win of the season

Dixie State pushed its program-record winning streak to 11-straight matches, while two more school records fell, as DSU blanked Academy of Art 1-0 on Homecoming Saturday night at Legend Solar Stadium. The Trailblazers won their program-record 11th-match overall (11-3-0/9-0-0 PacWest) to remain perfect atop the Pacific West Conference table and extend to a two-game lead over second-place Concordia-Irvine (8-4-2/7-2-0) with four regular season league matches remaining.

Dixie State struck early for its lone goal of the match as freshman Angel Estrada (Pasadena, Calif./Pasadena HS) took away a clear attempt and beat Urban Knight goalkeeper Kevin Mendez one-on-one to stake the Trailblazers to their 1-0 advantage.

The DSU defense, anchored by Estrada, Bryan Baugh (Henderson, Nev./Green Valley HS), Dominic Damato (Las Vegas, Nev./Shadow Ridge HS) and Hunter Ketterer (Heber City, Utah/Wasatch HS), made the lead stand-up as the Trailblazers limited AAU (2-11-1/2-7-0) to just six shot attempts. Meanwhile, senior Bradley Trella (Chandler, Ariz./Chandler HS) became DSU's career shutouts leader as he stopped the only two shots he faced on goal to keep the Urban Knights of the scoreboard.

Trella, who posted a school single-season record nine shutout results in 2015, picked up his third shutout win this season and 12th shutout overall (8-0-4) in his two-year career to break the previous Dixie State career record of which was previously held by former DSU keeper Tyler Waters (2010-13), who recorded 11 shutouts over his four-year career.

Dixie State continues its regular-season ending five-match homestand next Saturday, Oct. 29, vs. Dominican University beginning at 4:30 p.m., at nearby Dixie High School.
