ST. GEORGE, Utah – A golden goal off the foot of sophomore Megan Marchbanks (Springville, UT/Springville) in the 92nd minute was enough to propel the Dixie State University women's soccer team (4-3-1/4-1 Pacific West) past Chaminade on Monday at Hansen Stadium.

"Marchbanks finished a huge goal in overtime for us," DSU head coach Kacey Bingham said. "Ultimately, we are happy that we got the win."

The golden goal came off a touch pass from Jennifer Mason (Springville, UT/Springville) right in the middle of the goal box. Her crafty pass angled to Marchbanks on the left side. She shot high into the goal for the game-winner, her second tally of the night.

The win over the Silverswords (0-6/0-2 PacWest) went into extra time after the visitors from Hawaii scored twice in the final four minutes of regulation to erase a 3-1 DSU lead.

Kimberly Thurman (Sandy, UT/Alta) netted the first Dixie State goal in the 21st minute off a great centering pass from Mindi Beckstrom (Nibley, UT/Mountain Crest). The 1-0 lead held until halftime thanks to a pair of saves from Stacie Gubler (Las Vegas, NV/Palo Verde).

Chamiande's leading goal scorer Twyla Hamasaki evened the match in the 60th minute, finding space behind Cecilee Horlacher (St. George, UT/Snow Canyon).

Dixie State took its 3-1 advantage on a 72nd minute score from Mason (assisted by Aarika Andersen (Bountiful, UT/Woods Cross)) and the first Marchbanks-Mason connection in the 84th minute.

"We did a lot of good things, but unfortunately had a couple of breakdowns at the end of the game," Bingham added.

Gubler returned to the match for the overtime period, but did not have to wait long to earn the overtime win.

Dixie State dominated the pace of the match, out shooting Chaminade 37-7 on the night.

The Red Storm face BYU-Hawaii on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. from Hansen Stadium.
