CSU Dominguez Hills Defeats Dixie State 96-77

Brianna White leads squad with 22 points

Box Score LAS VEGAS, NV -- The Dixie State women's basketball team dropped their opening game of the Las Vegas Challenge to CSU Dominguesz Hills 96-77 tonight at the Orleans Arena.

Despite four Red Storm (2-6) players scoring in double figures, the Toros (5-2) dominated inside, racking up 55 rebounds and scored 44 points to run away with the win.

The Toros jumped out early in the contest and led the entire contest. The Red Strom shot 26-77 (33.8 percent) from the field and 6-24 (25 percent) from three point range.

Dixie State committed a season low 12 turnovers and continued to force the CSUDH to hit off balance shots and battle hard inside.

Talia Rayford scored two of her points to give the Toros a quick 12-4 lead with 16:01 left in the first half. The Red Storm would follow with a 5-0 run and cut the margin to just three points when Taylor Mann (Castle Dale, UT/Emery) connected on a jumper down low and earned the extra throw. But CSUDH followed with a 10-1 run and carried it into the 50-36 halftime lead.

Led by Brianna White (Phoenix, AZ/Tolleson Union) who dropped in 22 on 6 of 19 shooting. Austen Harris (Acworth, GA/Desert Vista) was also a perfect 8 of 8 from the free-throw line. Kaylah Miller (San Diego, CA/La Jolla Country Day) scored 16 points, while Mann added 15. Haley Holmstead (American Fork, UT/American Fork), who leads entered the contest averaging 24.9 points per game, scored 10.

Tayler Champion scored 23 points on 10 of 18 shooting, and also pulled down 11 rebounds. Rayford added 19 points, and a perfect 3 for 3 from beyond the arc.

The Red Storm play for the final time in 2013 and the Las Vegas Challenge with a 5 pm MT tip-off tomorrow against Western Oregon from the Orleans Arena.
