ST. GEORGE – Dixie State's Cedric Johnson (Thatcher, AZ/Thatcher) provided a two-out, two-run walk-off home run in Sunday's nightcap ensuring a doubleheader sweep of Montana State Billings in the opening two games of a four-game series.

The centerfielder launched a 3-1 pitch over the porch in right-centerfield for a 4-2 victory after DSC blasted past the Yellowjackets 14-3 earlier in the day at Bruce Hurst Field.

Dixie State improved to 10-4 on the year, taking the first two games of the non-conference series with MSUB (2-4) representing the Great Northwest.

Austin Christiansen (Las Vegas, NV/Legacy (NV)) pitched five solid innings in relief to earn the game two win (2-0). He allowed just one hit while striking out two hitters. Freshman hurler Stefan Cantwell (South Jordan, UT/Bingham) made his first collegiate start – surrendering two earned runs on four MSUB hits over two innings.

After MSUB took a 2-0 lead after the visiting half of the first, Yuto Kata (Chiba, Japan/Juan Diego (Utah)) tallied an RBI drawing a bases loaded walk and Garrett Nash (Draper, UT/Jordan) brought in Mitch Manning (Kaysville, UT/Davis) on a sacrifice fly to tie the game. The game remained tied until Johnson's homer, his second of the year, off MSUB starter Samuel Patterson.

In the series opener, junior starter Mike Dedrick (Cedar City, UT/Canyon View) received all the offensive support he would need after Dixie State scored eight runs in the opening frame. Dedrick threw seven quality innings – three runs on seven hits while fanning six – to even his season record to 1-1.

The Storm racked up 14 runs on 13 hits in game one, eight runs on five hits in the opening stanza. Tyson Littlewood (St. George. UT/Pine View HS) struck first – or should we say a pitch struck him first – when plunked with the bases loaded. Joe Andrade (Yuma, AZ/San Luis ) followed with a two-run single. A bases loaded walk gave Ammon Zitting (Pleasant Grove. UT/Lone Peak) an RBI and Nash capped the frame with a double to plate two more.

Nash and Andrade would factor in a five-run fifth, as well. Nash singled home Sam Friend (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial) with one out. Later, Andrade smacked a double to right field plating two.

Andrade closed the game 3-for-5 with five RBI while Nash had four hits, three RBI and three runs scored.

The series concludes Monday with another scheduled doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
