Utah Tech head baseball coach
Chris Pfatenhauer announced on Thursday the addition of
Bret Ringer to the program as a new assistant coach.
Ringer will serve as the program's recruiting coordinator, and will work with the Trailblazer infielders and assist in the development of the hitters.
"We could not be more excited to have Bret join the Trailblazer Baseball Family," Coach Pfatenhauer said. "Bret has a myriad of experience in college baseball and has tasted success at different levels and in different roles. Coach Ringer has recruited all over the country, is a tremendous infield coach, and has coached up some elite hitters over the past 15 years.
"Bret and his family will be a great fit in our community and we are excited for them to have the opportunity to live in southern Utah," Pfatenhauer added.
Ringer most recently served as associate head coach at Kansas Wesleyan University from 2022-26, where he worked primarily with the infielders and hitters. During his time in Salina, KWU won four-consecutive Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) regular season championships, two KCAC tournament titles, and went to the NAIA World Series for the first time in school history in 2024.
This past season, the Coyotes' offense ranked in the top-three in several NAIA national offensive statistical categories, including leading the nation in extra-base hits, slugging percentage, and home runs, second in RBI, and third in on-base percentage, doubles, and base hits.
Over his four years at KWU, the Coyotes played to an impressive 183-51, including a 50-9 overal record this past season, and broke several school records. In addition, the Coyote defense posted a .967 fielding percentage in 2026, which was the program's highest percentage over the last six-plus seasons.
Prior to his arrival to KWU, Ringer spent three seasons as head baseball coach at Mendocino College in Ukiah, Calif., and served as an assistant coach at Los Medanos College for seven years.
A native of Stockton, Calif., Ringer graduated from Chico State in 2010, and earned his Master's degree in Coach and Athletic Administration from Concordia University-Irvine.
Ringer played one season at Chico State in 2009 with Coach Pfatenhauer on the CSU staff, and served as a student assistant coach with the Wildcats' program when it went to the NCAA Division II West Regionals.
Utah Tech closed the 2026 season with a 35-24 overall record, an 11-win turnaround from a season ago. Utah Tech's 35 wins this year also marked the sixth time in the program's NCAA era that the Trailblazers had reached the 35-win plateau, and are the most victories in the program's brief time as a Division I member.
