Great eight for Andrade in DSC baseball doubleheader sweep

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

OAKLAND, Calif. – Junior catcher Joe Andrade (Yuma, AZ/San Luis ) had a pair of four RBI games Thursday leading Dixie State College to an Opening Day doubleheader sweep of host Academy of Art. DSC came from behind in the nine-inning opener to win 10-6 before capping the day with a 9-3 win in seven innings.

Andrade supplied the cushion DSC needed in the opening game with a bases-clearing double.

Dixie State (2-0, 2-0 Pacific West) only had the opportunity to get to Andrade thanks to good luck with two outs. Yuto Kata (Chiba, Japan/Juan Diego (Utah)) singled up the middle and Garrett Nash (Draper, UT/Jordan) walked. Colton Yack (South Jordan, UT/Bingham) was granted an intentional walk after a wild pitch moved Kata and Nash into scoring position. Cedric Johnson (Thatcher, AZ/Thatcher) plated a run after a his grounded to third led to an infield error. A second run crossed after Tyson Littlewood (St. George. UT/Pine View HS) was hit with a pitch, setting the scene for Andrade.

Jordon Blanchard (Henderson, NV/Coronado) recorded one out in relief in the seventh
(W, 1-0) before the Storm broke through for its five-run frame. Starter Mike Dedrick (Cedar City, UT/Canyon View) allowed six earned runs over 6.2 innings. Kyle DiMartino (Las Vegas, NV/Durango) shut the door with two scoreless innings.

Littlewood bombed the first home run of the year, a two-run shot, in the DSC first inning. The Storm had 11 hits overall.

In game number two, both teams pushed across three runs in the first inning. Andrade had two RBI with a double and Mitch Manning (Kaysville, UT/Davis) scored Littlewood with a sacrifice fly.

Bryce Anderson (Cedar City, UT/Cedar HS) allowed three runs, one earned, on two hits in the first frame, but bounced back to only scatter two more hits in four more innings
(W, 1-0). Justin Jarvis (Hurricane. UT/Hurricane), making his first appearance since returning from his LDS mission, gave up three hits while throwing two scoreless innings.

Eric Bond (Scottsdale, AZ/Horizon) and Ammon Zitting (Pleasant Grove. UT/Lone Peak) joined Andrade with multi-hit outings in the second game. The club had eight hits overall.

The final two games of this opening conference series are scheduled for Friday beginning at Noon MST from Laney College.
