Dixie State Student-Athletes Compile 2.95 GPA in Fall 2011 Semester

(SAINT GEORGE, Utah – Feb. 3, 2012) Dixie State Athletic Director Jason Boothe announced today that DSC student-athletes earned a collective grade point average of 2.95 in the fall semester, the highest mark in school history. The previous record was 2.92 in the spring of 2011. It is the second consecutive semester the GPA record was broken.

Individually, eight student-athletes earned perfect 4.0 GPA's, while an additional 30 had a 3.80 GPA or higher. 174 of 303 student-athletes, or 57 percent, achieved a 3.0 grade point average or better for the 2011 fall semester.

“I'm extremely pleased with the excellent work done in the classroom by the student-athletes this past fall. They understand that academics come first and it shows in the results. I look forward to seeing even more improvement as we continue to build our academic support offerings under the leadership of Brett Adams (Sandy, UT/Alta), our Academic Advisor,” said Athletic Director Jason Boothe.

Adams was hired in August 2011 as the NCAA Academic Advisor and was instrumental in implementing a department academic success program that included weekly study hall.

Women's volleyball had the highest team GPA at 3.699, followed by women's soccer (3.550) and women's cross country (3.324). Men's basketball had the highest GPA for a men's team with 3.080.
