Red Storm Take Three of Four from Grand Canyon, Improve to 7-1

PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Dixie State College baseball team came from behind in the second game of the doubleheader to sweep Grand Canyon 3-2 and 13-4 today at Brazell Stadium in Phoenix, AZ.
 
DSC secured the series win by taking three out of four and improved to 7-1 overall and 7-1 in PacWest play.
 
Trailing 2-0, Yuto Kata (Chiba, Japan/Juan Diego (Utah)) lead the top of the sixth inning with a single to the shortstop and Garrett Nash (Draper, UT/Jordan) reached on an error by the leftfielder. Both runners advanced on the play.
 
Colton Yack (South Jordan, UT/Bingham) helped plate the first and second Red Storm runs with a two RBI-single to centerfield.
 
Red Storm centerfielder Cedric Johnson (Thatcher, AZ/Thatcher) followed with another single to center, advancing Yack to third base. Johnson's single helped chase Lopes starter Lindsay from the game.
 
Catcher Joe Andrade (Yuma, AZ/San Luis ) welcomed relief pitcher Jarrett with an RBI single to right field scoring Yack and giving DSC the 3-2 lead.
 
Red Storm starter Sam Friend (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial) picked up his first win of the season going five and one third innings allowing two runs, both unearned , six hits and struck out five. Daniel Zapata (Mesa, AZ/Westwood) picked up his second save of the season by closing the game out.
 
In game one, DSC scored three runs in the first and second innings and added four runs in the fifth to defeat Grand Canyon 13-4.
 
Austin Christiansen (Las Vegas, NV/Legacy (NV)) pitched six solid innings in relief of starter Josh Mooney (American Fork, UT/American Fork). He allowed only one hit and struck out six, earning his first win as a Red Storm.
 
Andrade went four five on the day with four RBI and scored three runs in the win. He now has 19 RBI on the season in just eight games.
 
Johnson, Tyson Littlewood (St. George. UT/Pine View HS) and Mitch Manning (Kaysville, UT/Davis) each added to hits to the Red Storm's 14 hit attack.
 
Dixie State travels again next week , this time to Cal Baptist on Friday and Saturday for PacWest games. Both days first pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
