Young and Jensen Lead Red Storm to Win at Point Loma Nazarene

Box Score

SAN DIEGO - Shannon Young (Whittier, CA/St Paul) had thirteen kills and Brita Jensen (Taylorsville, UT/Taylorsville) added twelve as the Dixie State College volleyball team defeated Point Loma Nazarene in five games 25-14, 23-25, 17-25, 26-24, 15-11.

The Red Storm (5-7, 3-4 PWC) made it two in a row to defeat the Sea Lions (5-9, 1-4 PWC), having won in four games last Saturday in Saint George.

Mercedes O'Neal (West Jordan, UT/West Jordan) added 10 kills for DSC and Makenzi Bird (Saint George, UT/Snow Canyon ) had a solo block and eight block assists to lead a stingy Red Storm defense to 15.5 team blocks.

Winning game on with ease, the Red Storm dropped games two and three before making a comeback in the fourth game and winning 26-24 to force the fifth and deciding game.

In the 5th game, PLNU jumpied out to an early 4-0 lead and led 7-5 before DSC tied the match at 10-10 on a Jen Hardman (American Fork, UT/American Fork) kill. DSC then won the next four out of five points to keep the Sea Lions swimming.

Shelby Sorenson (Lehi, UT/Lehi) led the way with 20 assists and Hardman followed with 17 of her own. Libero Alex Anderson (Prescott, AZ/Prescott) had 14 digs.

For PLNU it was another solid performance by McKensey Wise who finished with a game high 20 kills and hit a stellar .382 for the match. But her performance was not enough to overcome the Red Storm.

Dixie State will make the short trip from San Diego to Riverside, Calif. to take on Cal Baptist tomorrow night.
