Rally falls short as Dixie State stumbles at home 84-82

ST. GEORGE – Down by 11 points with 2:15 left in the ballgame, Dixie State men's basketball team started a ferocious run that brought the 1,128 fans inside the Burns Arena to their feet. Despite forcing steals with a full-court press and having multiple chances in the final seconds, the Red Storm could not tie the game, ultimately falling to Westminster College 84-82 in an exhibition contest.

A pair of forwards - sophomore Dalton Groskreutz (Santa Clara, UT/Snow Canyon) and senior Griffon Jones (Cheney, WA/Cheney) – led the Red Storm with 16 points. Junior transfer Mitch Frei (Santa Clara, UT/Snow Canyon) (9 points) provided the spark over the final run with four steals and four points.

Westminster College forward Ben Walker led the Griffins (3-0 NAIA) with 22 points and eight rebounds.

Dixie State shot 28-of-54 (51.9-percent) from the floor and 76.7-percent from the foul line (23-30).

The Red Storm plays its final exhibition Friday night against the BYU Cougars at the Marriott Center. Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m.
