SAINT GEORGE, Utah -- In a battle of the unbeaten teams in the PacWest conference, the Dixie State men's soccer team prevailed 2-1 over Cal Baptist on the pitch at Hansen Stadium tonight.

The Red Storm (4-2-2, 3-0 PWC) scored first and never would relinquish the lead. On a corner kick in the 2nd minute, Tyler Albretsen (Pleasant View, UT/Weber) found Alex Lawhun (Draper, UT/Alta) who headed his second goal of the year by the Lancer goalie.

DSC Head Coach Danny Ortiz said, “The team put together another full 90 minutes of effort.”

In the second half, the Red Storm scored what would prove to be a much-needed goal in the 68th minute. On a free kick by Clayton Alexander (Issaquah, WA/Issaquah/Brighton) who found the streaking Jordan Roylance (Smithfield, UT/Sky View) who from 20 yards out in the center found the back of the net for his fourth goal of the season.

Marc Hope would get the Lancers (6-3, 4-1 PWC) on the board and close the Red Storm lead to just one.  Will Rupert crossed a pass from the left side and found the dashing Hope and he would score from 17 yards out and trail 2-1.

Ortiz concluded, “Alex Lawhun (Draper, UT/Alta) was big on both ends of the field and Tyler Walters (Ogden, UT/Ben Lomand) did an outstanding job in goal.”

Despite being outshot 16-11, DSC used strong defense all afternoon to secure the victory. CBU put the pressure on the Red Storm all day, having 15 corner kicks to just six for DSC.

The Red Storm will be back in action next Saturday at 7:00 PM when they host Dominican University of California in another PacWest conference tilt.
