TODAY'S GAME -The #25-ranked Dixie State College of Utah women's basketball team will play host to the #16-ranked Antelopes of Grand Canyon University. The two are scheduled to tip-off at 5:30 PM inside the Burns Arena in Saint George, Utah.
THE RECORDS-Meeting for the first time in the 2010-11 campaign, the two are familiar with each other's approach. The Antelopes played two games in the GNAC/PacWest Challenge hosted by the Red Storm in early December. The Red Storm are 10-1 overall and 0-0 in the PacWest. Grand Canyon is 12-1 overall and 0-0 in the PacWest. DSC won the last meeting 93-88 in Saint George on 2/6/10. DSC is 4-1 in Burns Arena against the Antelopes, having not lost since the 51-66 battle on 1/11/08. Grand Canyon holds the series advantage 6-4.
RED STORM WATCH - Dixie State is riding a two game winning streak into tonight's game. Having just defeated NAIA William Penn 88-67 and College of Saint Mary (NE) 58-42 on 12/18 and 12/19, DSC looks to continue its winning ways. DSC has rattled off 13 consecutive home wins andhas not lost a game since the 74-84 loss to then #5-ranked Fort Lewis College on 11/28/09. Shooting 50% in the game helped to propel the Red Storm to victory. DSC is 9-0 on the year when they shoot 40% percent or better and are 8-0 when holding their opponents to under 40%. For the Red Storm to be successful, the fabulous three of
Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) (16.2 ppg),
Breann Hill (Harrisburg, PA/McDevitt) (13.5 ppg) and
Sheila Adams (Layton, UT/Layton) (13.4 ppg) will have to come ready to play. These three account for 43.1 points per game of the 76.2 the Red Storm average. Look for
Erica Carlson (Tucson, AZ/Canyon del Oro HS) to make a difference in the middle and match-up against the smaller Grand Canyon. Carlson averages 3.5 blocks per game and is ranked 5th in the nation in that category. Dixie State leads the PacWest in field goal percentage with 44.1 percent per game and likes to shoot the long ball. DSC has a +7.5 margin in rebounding, with Brown averaging 11.3 rpg, good enough for first in the conference.
Red Storm Fast Break tidbits :

Five different Red Storm players have led the team in scoring this season. Brown(4),Hill (3), Adams (3),
Chanel Maxey (Anaheim, CA/Canyon) (1) and

SCOUTING GRAND CANYON - Grand Canyon is riding an 11-game win streak. With their only loss coming in the second game of the year. Both the Antelopes and the Red Storm's loses have come at the hands of #12 Alaska Anchorage. GCU most recently won a tune-up contest 104-67 on New Year's Eve against Texas A&M International. The Antelopes are led by Preaseason PacWest Player of the Year Samantha Murphy. She leads the nation in scoring at 24.1 ppg and shoots a stellar 42.5% from 3 PT range. She is one of the most prolific scorers and players in the nation. Rosalyn Nelson also chips in 12.3 ppg. GCU leads the PacWest in scoring at 80.2 ppg, that also ranks them 17th in the NCAA. GCU shoots 42.8 from the field, 38.2 from 3PT range, 73.3 from the FT line.
ALL THE MARBLES - As it may appear, Grand Canyon is the four time PacWest Conference Champion and this is a must win for the Red Storm to control its own destiny in the race for the automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament. The Red Storm must take care of business at home if they want to dethrone the preseason favorite.
