Brown leads all scorers with 20 points

SAN RAFAEL, California-January 20, 2011-Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) scored a game high 20 points leading the #13-ranked Dixie State College women's basketball team to a 76-49 win over Dominican University on Thursday night.

The Red Storm (13-1, 3-0 PacWest) used a game opening 17-2 run to catapult them out in front early. Dominican (3-12, 1-4 PacWest) managed to cut the lead to nine points at 27-18 with 5:55 remaining in the half. But, another 10-4 run to end the first half gave Dixie State a 40-22 advantage going into halftime.

To open the second half, Dixie State continued where it left off, using a 13-0 run to roll to victory.

The Red Storm forced 18 turnovers and the defense held the Penguins without a point in the first half for over six minutes. They also allowed only 31.7 percent shooting from the field.

The Red Storm shot 50 percent from the field and continued to shoot well from the free-throw line (80 percent) and from behind the arc (33.3 percent). Breann Hill (Harrisburg, PA/McDevitt) added 15 points and Sheila Adams (Layton, UT/Layton) chipped in 11 points.

Dixie State dominated the board winning the advantage 49-26. Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) and Erica Carlson (Tucson, AZ/Canyon del Oro HS) tied for team highs with seven each.

For Dominican, Kelsey Janusch scored 12 points and Kim Nakamura added 11 points in the loss.

The Red Storm ends the weeklong road trip on Saturday afternoon traveling to Notre Dame de Namur. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 PM MT and can be heard live on DixieAtheltics.com with John Potter, the “Voice of the Red Storm.”
