Johnna Brown and Breann Hill Lead Red Storm Past University Texas Permian Basin 82-67

GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado-November 26, 2010
– For the third time in four games, Sophomore Forward Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) earned a double-double by grabbing 17 rebounds and scoring 19 points. Brown the led the Dixie State women's basketball team to a 82-67 victory over University of Texas Permian Basin in the Clarion Inn Thanksgiving Classic.

With the victory, the Red Storm (4-0) remains unbeaten on the season thanks to the help of Brown and Breann Hill (Harrisburg, PA/McDevitt). Hill was solid from the floor, going 10-12 from the field and scoring a game-high 22 points and earned her second double-double of the season by grabbing down 11 rebounds.

With the scored tied at two, Dixie State went on a 12-3 run to separate themselves from UTPB. Dixie State led 45-25 at the half. The Red Storm never trailed in the game and led by as many as 26 points midway thru the 2nd half.

Most of the success for the Red Storm came from shooting the ball so well in the game. Dixie State shot 51.5 percent from the field and held UTPB to 36.2 percent. The Red Storm also won the battle of the boards by a dominating margin of 56-26.

“We played our best game yet,” said Coach Kristensen. “Defensively, I loved our first half. We held a team that is averaging 96 points per game to 25 first half points.”

Erica Carlson (Tucson, AZ/Canyon del Oro HS) grabbed 10 rebounds and scored 8 points and Chanel Maxey (Anaheim, CA/Canyon) and Sheila Adams (Layton, UT/Layton) each added eight points respectively.

Coach Kristensen concluded, “we got a complete team effort, I was very pleased with our efforts today.”

UTPB (4-2) had three players in double figures, led by Teisha King with 16 points.

The Red Storm concludes the Clarion Inn Thanksgiving Classic by playing the host school Mesa State College tomorrow at 5:00 PM.
