BOX SCORE: LEWIS 61, DSC 51

ANAHEIM, CALIF. (November 14) – Lewis University outrebounded Dixie State by 15 on Sunday en route to a 61-51 victory on Day Three of the Disney Tip-Off Classic over Dixie State College. The Red Storm finished in third place with a 1-2 tournament record.

The Flyers used their extra opportunities to outscore DSC 14-to-five in second chance points – an important factor in a close game.

For the third straight game, forward Griffon Jones (Cheney, WA/Cheney) led the Red Storm in scoring with 12 points. Senior guards Jeremiah Barnes (Compton, CA/Los Altos) and Donovan Plunkett (Oroville, CA/Las Plumas) finished just behind at 11 points each.

Both teams struggled to find a shooting rhythm in the first half. Dixie State had a 26-23 lead after 20 minutes despite a 7-for-21 (33%) shooting performance.

Lewis took control with a 10-2 opening spurt in the second half to push ahead 33-28.

Dixie State cut the advantage to 48-45 with 5:50 remaining, but Jeron Lee of the Flyers went to work cashing in a pair of three-pointers and two free throws. Those eight points highlighted a 9-1 run to give Lewis the momentum.

Lee led all scorers with 16 points (5-11 FG, 4-8 3FG). Matt Toth snagged nine rebounds and Lonnie Lawrence ripped down seven more.

Dixie State returns to action next Friday at 3:00pm Pacific (4:00pm Mountain) against Western Washington in Seattle for the first game of the Sodexo Tip-Off Classic.

TOURNEY NOTES: Griffon Jones (Cheney, WA/Cheney) was named to the All-Tournament Team. He scored 46 points in three games for DSC. Joining Jones is Chris McClellan (Lewis), Taylor Rohde (UAA), Casey Ryan (UCSD) and tournament MVP Christian Hatch (UCSD).
