Men win wild one over Western Washington (12/15/08)

ST GEORGE.UT- The Dixie State College men's basketball team returned home tonight to Burns Arena to play host to Western Washington University. DSC began its season with four consective weekends on the road and welcomed the oppurtunity to play at home.



Tonights game featured a sea-saw battle between two schools on the opposite side of the spectrum. Central Washington has seen much success. starting the season 6-0. Dixie State on the other hand entered tonights contest 1-5.



Dixie State led at the half 39-35 and thanks to a Ryan Sanchez (Ogden. UT/Fremont) leapin leaner in the paint with 2 seconds left. Dixie State was able to force overtime and ended regulation all tied at 74. Sanchez was fouled on the play and missed the free throw for the win.



In overtime. both teams scored four points with Western Washington missing a three pointer as time expired. In double overtime with the game tied at 84 and 14 seconds left. Sanchez penetrated and found and open Ben Hartman (Santa Clara. UT/Snow Canyon) with .7 seconds left. The basket lifted Dixie State to the win.



Dixie State was led by Nick Howards 21 points and eight rebounds. Ryan Sanchez (Ogden. UT/Fremont) added 17 points and 10 rebounds. Andy Palmer (St. George. UT/Pine View) scored 16 points and had 7 rebounds.



Dixie State is on a 6 game homestand and will play host to #12 ranked Central Washington tomorrow night at 8PM in the Burns Arena.
