The Late Night Trailblazers Secure First Victory of the Season Monday Night

(St George, UT - Aug 31, 2026) – Utah Tech men's soccer closes out the month of August with a shutout victory over Sacramento State to earn their first victory of the season.

After multiple lightning delays pushed the start time back about 80 minutes, both teams started slow out of the gate. The first quality scoring chance for Utah Tech (1-3-0) came in the 22nd minute on a Jacob Cinelli shot that was saved by the Hornet (1-3-0) goalkeeper.

Possession was nearly even in the first half, but UT was able to outshoot Sacramento State 7-2, but only got two shots on target. The Utah Tech back line held the Hornets to zero shots on goal.

After a scoreless first half, the Trailblazers started the second half with more aggression. In the 48th minute, senior forward Samir Cuevas found himself with a chance from the right side of the box and buried the shot to break the deadlock and give UT the lead. Both Zach Taylor and Mitch Williams assisted the go-ahead score.

The Trailblazers kept the pressure on the Hornets in the second half, holding a 10-4 shot advantage but just getting one shot on target outside of the Cuevas goal.

Utah Tech was able to control the remainder of the game, allowing just one shot on goal in the second half en route to a 1-0 shutout victory. Freshman goalie Zack Jarvie was solid on net tonight with his distribution and made the save on the one shot that made it on goal. Jarvie earned both his first collegiate win, and first collegiate shutout tonight.
