Utah Tech could not salvage the final game of its home WAC weekend series with visiting Tarleton State as the Trailblazers were swept for just the second time this season after a 10-8 loss on Sunday afternoon at Bruce Hurst Field.
Â
After spotting the Texans a pair of third inning runs, Utah Tech (29-19/6-6 WAC) struck for three runs in the home half of the frame en route to its first lead of the series at 3-2.
Â
The Blazers loaded the bases with no outs and quickly tied the game thanks to a
Finnegan Stewart two-run single to left field.Â
Hudson Manwaring followed that up with an RBI-double to right center to give his side a one-run advantage.
Â
Tarleton State (31-16/11-4 WAC) pulled even with a run in the fourth, only to see Utah Tech clap back with a
Ryan Kroepel two-run single of his own to extend to a 5-3 advantage.
Â
Unfortunately for the home side the lead did not last long as the Texans countered with five fifth-inning runs, with the big blow coming on a three-run Chris Ricard homer, as Tarleton State jumped back in front at 8-5.
Â
Utah Tech answered with a
Petey Soto Jr. RBI-single in the fifth, and a Manwaring run-scoring base knock in the sixth to trim the Texan lead to 8-7.
Â
Tarleton State would get those both of those runs back on one swing in the eighth with a two-out, two-run Rayner Heinrich homer.
Â
The Trailblazers made one final charge in the ninth, loading the bases with two outs ahead of
Ty Johnsen, who singled in
Kyle McDaniel to cut the deficit to two runs, and reached base as the potential winning run.
Â
However Texan closer Anthony Treto (S, 6) would retire the final hitter he would face to cinch away the sweep and end the four-plus hour marathon game.Â
Â
Utah Tech rapped out 13 hits on the afternoon, with Manwaring tying a season high with three hits to go with his two RBI. Meanwhile Kroepel and Stewart each finished with two hits and two runs driven in.
Â
Utah Tech now prepares for its final road swing of the 2026 regular season, which begins next weekend with a three-game WAC series at UT Arlington.
