Trailblazers Drop Contest at BYU on Tuesday, 9-6

The Trailblazers are back home this weekend to host UT Arlington on Friday and Saturday at Karl Brooks Field.

(Provo, Utah - April 14, 2026) - The Trailblazers battled tough on Tuesday afternoon falling 9-6 at BYU at Gail Miller Field.

In front of nearly 2,000 fans on Kids Day, Utah Tech (16-25) continued its hot hitting as of late with its third double digit hit total over their last four games finishing with 11 base knocks with four different Trailblazers notching two hits apiece.

Lakaiya-Braessia Kahahawai-Kekona, Brooklyn Dowdle, Drew McKown & Kennedy Embrey all finished with a pair of hits while Naya Taylor added a double, Gabi Giroux registered a triple and Lauren Jones tacked on an RBI single.

In the circle, the Trailblazers used three pitchers with Sauren Garton making her team-leading 18th start tossing the first three innings before giving way to Riley Price for 2.2 innings and Delaney Wright came on for the final out of the sixth inning.

How It Happened
The Cougars raced out to an early 3-0 lead after the first inning with a pair of home runs and tacked on an RBI single in the second to push their lead to 4-0.

The Trailblazers jumped on the scoreboard in the third with an RBI single back up the middle by Kahahawai-Kekona. Three more runs came home in the fourth for the Trailblazers to tie the game at four with RBIs from Howley & McKown and an RBI single to left center by Jones evened up the game. BYU responded with a three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth to jump ahead 7-4 and after an RBI single by Howley in the fifth, the Trailblazers got within a run in the sixth on an RBI single to center by Kahahawai-Kekona. Looking to tie the contest, the Trailblazers loaded the bases with Taylor & Dowdle reaching base, but Embrey grounded out to shortstop to end the frame.

The Cougars tacked on two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth with a solo home run & an RBI infield single before the Trailblazers were retired in order in the seventh.
