(Stephenville, Texas - April 24, 2026) - The Trailblazers battled tough on Friday at Tarleton State dropping a doubleheader to the Texans at Tarleton Softball Complex.
Utah Tech (16-30, 3-11 WAC) drop a pitcher's duel in game one, 2-1 before dropping game two, 8-3 to Tarleton State (33-18, 11-3 WAC).
After being held to three hits in game one, the Trailblazers outhit the Texans, 11-9 in game two and were led by three players with two hits apiece.
Smacking her fourth home run of the season in game one, senior
Lakaiya-Braessia Kahahawai-Kekona tallied a pair of singles & an RBI in game two.
Kennedy Embrey and
Sadie Phillips each added two hits apiece and
Kinley Pappas notched her team-leading 18th double.
In the circle,
Sauren Garton tossed her sixth complete game of the season in game one throwing six innings limiting the Texans to three hits, two runs and struck out a pair.
Three pitchers saw action in game two with
Lexie Wilson getting the start throwing 2.1 innings followed by 3.1 innings by
Delaney Wright and one final out by
Cemryn Pickett.
How It Happened Game One
The Texans got the scoring started with their lone two runs of the contest in the third inning on an RBI single by center fielder Mariah Debose.
After singles by
Summer Sanderson and
Gabi Giroux in the second and fourth innings, respectively, the Trailblazers broke up Tarleton's shutout bid with a leadoff home run by Kahahawai-Kekona in the seventh.
Looking to tie up the game, the next three Trailblazers were retired in order to drop a hard-fought contest.
How It Happened Game Two
The second game saw the Trailblazers jump on the scoreboard first with a run in the top of the third with an RBI double to left center by Embrey.
Three home runs by the Texans in the bottom of the frame pushed Tarleton ahead 5-1 before UT cut the Texans' lead to 5-2 with an RBI single up the middle by Kahahawai-Kekona in the fourth.
Two more runs came around to score for Tarleton to extend their lead to 7-2 with the Trailblazers scoring their final run of the contest in the fifth on an RBI single by
Jayda Gleave.
A run for the Texans in the sixth made it 8-3 in favor of Tarleton, but the Trailblazers continued to fight loading the bases to start the seventh with Embrey smoking a double,
Naya Taylor drawing a walk and Gleave was hit by pitch.
After a pitching change, the next three Trailblazers each went down swinging on strikes to close out the contest.
