(St. George, Utah - April 17, 2026) - The Trailblazers dropped both ends of a doubleheader on Friday afternoon to UT Arlington falling 15-4 in game one & 12-1 in five innings in game two at Karl Brooks Field.
Utah Tech (16-27, 3-8 WAC) jumped out to a 4-1 lead after five innings in game one, but 14 unanswered runs by UT Arlington (20-21, 8-6 WAC) over the final two innings saw the Mavericks storm back for the victory.
Senior outfielder
Sadie Phillips led the Trailblazers with three base knocks, including a pair of singles, scored a pair of runs and drove in an RBI.
Fellow senior
Lakaiya-Braessia Kahahawai-Kekona tallied a single, double, drew a walk and drove in a pair of runs.
In the circle,
Sauren Garton tossed the first six innings limiting the Mavs to 10 hits, five runs, four earned runs and five strikeouts before giving way to
Delaney Wright and
Riley Price.
The second game saw
Kinley Pappas smack her team-leading ninth home run of the season and Kahahawai-Kekona tallied her 12th multi-hit game of the seasonÂ
Lexie Wilson made her eighth start of the season tossing 3.1 innings and
Cemryn Pickett threw the final 1.2 innings.
How It Happened Game One
The Mavericks scored first with a leadoff home run in the second with the Trailblazers tying up the contest at one in the fourth on an RBI single up the middle by
Kennedy Embrey.
A three-run fifth inning for the Trailblazers pushed UT ahead 4-1 picking up an RBI double to left by Phillips and Kahahawai-Kekona drove in a pair lacing a double down the left field line.
A sacrifice fly by UTA in the sixth cut the Trailblazers' lead to 4-2, but 13 runs by the Mavericks in the seventh pushed UTA up 15-4 as the Trailblazers were retired in order in the bottom of the frame.
How It Happened Game Two
UTA jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the nightcap with four runs in the first and added a solo home run in the second.
Pappas led off the third with a round-tripper to right field trimming the Mavs' lead to 5-1, but UTA tacked on a two-run home run in the fourth and five more runs in the fifth going on to win by a final margin of 12-1.
