(St. George, Utah - March 27, 2026) - The Trailblazers used a strong offensive showing on Friday afternoon sweeping Southern Utah, 10-0 in five innings in game one & 13-5 in six innings in game two of a doubleheader at Karl Brooks Field.
Utah Tech (13-20, 3-2 WAC) tallied 12 hits in game one and 14 hits in game two with a combined nine extra-base knocks between the contests.
Game one saw a 3-for-3 performance from the dish from senior
Lakaiya-Braessia Kahahawai-Kekona and
Naya Taylor &
Kennedy Embrey each tallied two hits apiece.
In the circle,
Sauren Garton won her fourth game of the season delivering her third complete game of the year tossing five innings allowing only four hits while striking out four Thunderbirds.
Game two saw senior
Sadie Phillips notch career highs in hits (4) and runs scored (4) and sophomore
Kinley Pappas tied her career high in both hits with four and RBIs with six.
Embrey added three hits and belted a grand slam on her way to a career-high five RBIs.
Lexie Wilson improved to 6-1 on the season coming on in relief of starter
Delaney Wright to toss the final 4.1 innings limiting Southern Utah (15-20, 1-4 WAC) to five hits and one run.
How It Happened Game One
A seven-run second inning got the offense jumpstarted for the Trailblazers with a solo home run by
Summer Sanderson getting the scoring started.
Four straight RBI base knocks drove home five runs and the scoring was rounded out by a sacrifice fly by Sanderson driving home Taylor.
Three more runs came around for UT in the fourth with an RBI single by Taylor driving in one and the final two runs came home to score on an RBI single to left by
Gabi Giroux.
Garton sent down three of the final four Thunderbirds she faced in the fifth striking out the final SUU batter to complete her second shutout of the season.
How It Happened Game Two
The Thunderbirds responded in the second game to score the game's first five runs of the nightcap scoring one run in the first, three runs in the second and one more in the third to build a 5-0 lead.
The Trailblazers responded back with 13 unanswered runs scoring multiple runs in each of its final four turns at-bat.
RBI base knocks by Sanderson and Embrey pushed two runs across in the third and five runs came home in the fourth with a sacrifice fly by Pappas and a grand slam by Embrey gave the Trailblazers a 7-5 lead.
Two more runs came around in the fourth and singles by
Baylee Howley, a walk by Taylor and a single by Phillips in the sixth loaded the bases for Pappas who drilled her seventh home run of the season and gave the Trailblazers their second grand slam of the contest & their fourth run-rule victory of the season.
