Utah Tech could not get the bats going offensively as the Trailblazers suffered their worst loss of the season, 19-2, at BYU on Tuesday afternoon at Miller Park.
The Trailblazers (13-4/0-0 WAC) surrendered runs in each of the first seven innings, with the Cougars (16-14) putting up crooked numbers in five of those stanzas, including an eight-run second that blew the game open.
Meanwhile the Utah Tech bats were stymied as the Blazers could only muster three hits through the first eight innings, a pair of
Kyle McDaniel singles, and a
Petey Soto Jr. third inning double.
Fortunately the Blazers avoided the shutout by scoring two runs in the ninth, which came on a Cougar throwing error and a McDaniel single, his third hit of the day.
Utah Tech now heads to NorCal for a three-game road series at West Coast Conference member Santa Clara this Friday-through-Sunday.
