(Cedar City, Utah - Feb. 28, 2026) - Despite a career-high 28 points from
Jusaun Holt, the Trailblazers fell 81-67 at Southern Utah on Saturday night at America First Event Center.
Utah Tech (18-13, 11-6 WAC), who suffered only their second loss in their last nine contests, only trailed 42-38 at halftime, but a low-scoring second half saw Southern Utah (10-19, 6-10 WAC) pull away.
Led by Holt's 28 points, the redshirt senior guard went 10-of-18 from the field, nailed three three-pointers, sank all five free throw attempts and grabbed three rebounds in 38 minutes of action.
Chance Trujillo had his second straight high-scoring performance of the week adding 19 points going 5-for-8 from three-point range, two rebounds and an assist.
The Trailblazers hit 44.4 percent (24-54) from the field, 50 percent (9-18) from three-point range and 83.3 percent (10-12) from the free throw line.
The Thunderbirds were led by four players in double figures with Tanner Hayhurst leading the way with 25 points along with a double-double by Jaiden Feroah notching 18 points and 14 rebounds.
Elijah Duval and Kai Burdick added 15 and 13 points, respectively as each made six field goals apiece.
How It Happened
Getting out to a 10-7 lead after the first three minutes of action, the Trailblazers pushed their lead to 16-10 after back-to-back three-pointers by Holt and Trujillo.
Five straight points by the Thunderbirds got Southern Utah within one before a quick 6-0 run for the Trailblazers finished off by a Trujillo layup put UT ahead 22-15 midway through the first half.
Continuing to lead 30-25 after a layup by
Ethan Potter, SUU jumped ahead 31-30 after a 6-0 run of their own and pushed their lead to as many as seven (42-35) before a late triple by
Noah Bolanga cut the Thunderbirds lead to four at halftime.
SUU got the second half started with six straight points to push the Thunderbirds ahead, 50-38 before a pair of free throws by
Britton Berrett were UT's first two points of the half.
A three-pointer by Holt cut SUU's lead down to five (59-54), but a 15-5 run over the six-and-half minutes gave the Thunderbirds a 15-point lead to go on for the victory.
Numbers to Know
- The Trailblazers claimed the season series against the Thunderbirds, but fall to 0-6 in Cedar City.
- It was Holt's third contest this season with 20-plus points surpassing his previous career-high of 21 points at California Baptist on Jan. 21.
- Trujillo has now hit five or more three-pointers in three straight games and for the fourth time overall this season.
- With the loss, the Trailblazers will continue to battle for the WAC regular season title next week hosting Utah Valley.
