Trailblazers Outrun at Abilene Christian on Thursday Night

Utah Tech could not battle back from a pair of extended Wildcat scoring runs as the Trailblazers saw their two-game win streak halted after a 76-66 road loss at Abilene Christian on Thursday night inside Moody Coliseum.

How it happened
ACU quickly pounced on the Trailblazers (8-18/3-13 WAC) right from the jump, scoring the game's first eight points in the first minute of play on its way to a commanding 14-0 lead with three-plus minutes gone in the opening quarter.

Paige Cofer finally ended the drought with a lay-in to get Utah Tech on the scoreboard at the 6:17 mark of the period.

That shot seemed to settle Utah Tech down as the Blazers slowly clawed their way back into the game.

Led by the duo of Cofer (12 pts) and Lauren Crocker (7 pts), the Trailblazers knocked down 12 of their final 25 shots of the first half, including five of seven in the final three-plus minutes, before retreating to their locker room down by nine at 41-32.

Utah Tech flipped the script to start the second half, thanks in part to Kaylee Borden. The WAC's second-leading scorer and reigning conference newcomer of the week was held scoreless in the first half, but she struck for five quick points right out of the intermission, including the first of four second half 3-pointers, to make it a two-possession game at 41-37 and force a Wildcat timeout.

ACU (20-8/11-4 WAC) responded out of the timeout with a 13-0 run over a near six-plus minute span, which turned a four-point lead the Wildcats' biggest lead of the night at 54-37 after a Natalia Chavez 3-pointer with 3:30 to play in the third quarter.

Crocker ended the rally with her second perimeter jumper of the night, which once again ignited the Blazer offense.

Brie Crittendon followed with a 3-pointer of her own, while Borden hit two more from downtown, including a corner trey at the buzzer that capped a 14-3 rally and pulled Utah Tech to within six at 57-51 with one quarter to play.

Utah Tech would draw to as close as four at 63-59 after Borden's final trifecta of the night with 6:23 remaining in regulation. However ACU would go on to outscore Utah Tech 13-7 the rest of the way to close out its 20th win of the season and a three-game season sweep of the Trailblazers.

Numbers to know
Crocker poured in a career-high 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting with three 3-pointers to lead four Trailblazers in double figures. The junior forward also came away with her first collegiate double-double as she led Utah Tech with 11 rebounds.

Meanwhile Borden wound up with 14 points, all in the second half, to along with two assists, two steals and one rebound.

Cofer also poured in 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting, but was held to only two points in the second half.

In addition, Crittendon reached double figures with 13 points, including eight after halftime, on 5-of-9 shooting.

Utah Tech shot 41.8 percent (23-of-55) from the floor, which included a season-high 12 3-pointers (12-of-28; .429). Utah Tech also hit on all eight of its free throws and recorded 16 assists on its 23 made field goals, with a game-high seven of those coming from Chardonnay Hartley

Erin Woodson paced four Wildcat players in double figures with a game-high 23 points, while she led all rebounders with 14.

ACU hit on 22-of-62 (.355) of its field goal attempts with 13 3-pointers (13-of-35; .371). The Wildcats also went 19-of-24 (.792) at the line and outrebounded Utah Tech by a 45-29 count.
