Trailblazers Run Past Tarleton State on Saturday, 76-55

Brie Crittendon tied a career high with 23 points to lead four Trailblazer starters in double figures as Utah Tech ran past visiting Tarleton State, 76-55, on Saturday afternoon inside the Burns Arena.

How it happened
Leading 17-15 after the opening 10 minutes, the Trailblazers (8-17/3-12 WAC) opened the second quarter with a 15-3 run on their way to a 36-20 halftime advantage.

Crittendon (8 pts) and point guard Chardonnay Hartley (7 pts) combined for 15 of Utah Tech's 19 second-quarter points.

Meanwhile the Trailblazer defense forced five Texan turnovers and limited Tarleton State (12-14/6-9 WAC) to just 2-of-17 from the floor in the period.

Utah Tech saw its lead swell to as many as 10 points in the early minutes of the second half.

However the Texans put together a rally of their own, scoring 10-straight points as part of a 15-2 spurt to pull to within six at 49-43 after a Jakoriah Long jumper with 1:36 to go in the third quarter.

Kaylee Borden finally stopped the run with a pair of free throws with under a minute to play in the stanza as the Blazers went to the final 10 minutes with a 51-44 cushion in tow.

Paige Cofer got the fourth period off on the right foot for Utah Tech with a straight-away 3-pointer on a design play out of the quarter break.

That shot ignited the Trailblazers, and in the process deflated the Texans, as Utah Tech rattled off a decisive 13-2 run to extend to a 64-46 lead with 5:30 remaining. The Trailblazers never looked back from there as they cruised to their second-straight home victory.

Numbers to know
Crittendon connected on 7-of-9 from the floor with a pair of 3-pointers, and went 7-of-7 at the foul line. The redshirt senior guard also posted her second double-double of the season as pulled down 10 rebounds.

Meanwhile Borden, who poured in a career-high 29 points in Wednesday night's win over UT Arlington, followed that effort up with 18 more points on Saturday, 13 of which came after halftime. Borden hit three 3-pointers, and finished with a career-high six assists, four rebounds, and a career-high tying three steals.

Crocker added 13 points, including eight-straight points in Utah Tech's decisive fourth quarter run. Crocker knocked down five of her six shots with three treys and pulled down five rebounds.

Cofer also came away with her second double-double of the season with 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

The dual double-doubles from both Crittendon and Cofer came just over 13 months since the last time Utah Tech had two players post double-doubles. Crittendon (13 pts/11 rbs) was part of that of that one, as was Hartley (14 pts/13 ast) in a home win over Seattle U (1/16/25).

Utah Tech shot an even 40.0 percent (26-of-65) from the floor and tied a season-high with 11 3-pointers (11-of-30; .367). The Trailblazers also went 13-of-18 (.722) at the foul line and outrebounded Tarleton State by a 47-35 count, including a 15-10 edge on the offensive glass.

Long paced Tarleton State with 20 points, while Elodie Lutbert tallied 16 points and 10 rebounds. The Texans hit on 21-of-61 (.344) of their field goal attempts and was just 3-of-17 (.176) from the perimeter.
