Borden's Career Night Helps Trailblazers Rally Past UT Arlington on Wednesday Night, 60-58

Behind a career-high 29 points from Kaylee Borden, Utah Tech snapped its season long nine-game losing streak with a dramatic 60-58 home win over UT Arlington on Wednesday night inside the Burns Arena.

How it happened
A victory did not look to be in the offing for the Trailblazers (7-17/2-12 WAC), who found themselves facing 14-0 deficit after the first six-plus minutes of the game.

Utah Tech had misfired on its first nine shots until Borden seemed to break the seal with a 3-pointer at the 3:34 mark of the opening quarter.

Borden's shot ultimately led to six-straight Blazer points, but UT Arlington (10-16/4-10 WAC) scored eight-unanswered to close the stanza and owned a 22-6 lead heading into the second quarter.

Trailing by 14 at 26-12 with nearly three minutes gone the frame, Paige Cofer and Borden managed to knock down 3-pointers on consecutive possessions.

Those two shots seemed to ignite Utah Tech, which outscored the Lady Mavs 14-4 over the final seven-plus minutes, as the Trailblazers pared the UTA lead down to 30-26 at the intermission after a Calyn Dallas buzzer-beating trey.

Utah Tech kept the vibe going out of the locker room, opening the second half with a 18-8 run, including 13-straight points, to come all the way back and take a six-point lead at 44-38 after two Borden free throws with 1:33 to go in the third quarter.

Chardonnay Hartley kick-started the run with a 3-pointer, while Borden, who scored 12 third-quarter points, hit back-to-back perimeter jumpers.

Dallas also got into the act with a three-ball of her own as Utah Tech headed to the fourth quarter with a 46-42 lead in tow.

The two teams see-sawed back and forth over the final 10 minutes, and stood even at 58-58 with 32.4 seconds to play.

Utah Tech drew an inbounds play out of a timeout, but UT Arlington was able to deflect an inlet pass away and recovered the ball for one last shot.

Lady Mavs guard Kali Hazlip got a good look at a possible game-winning corner three, but the ball sailed over the rim and into the arms of Blazer guard Brie Crittendon with 1.5 seconds left.

After the Trailblazers' final timeout, Borden bowled over in the lane while setting a screen, which sent her to the foul line.

Borden knocked down both free throws, while a UTA desperation heave as the buzzer caromed off the backboard, and the Trailblazers celebrated the come-from-behind victory.

Numbers to know
Borden hit on 10-of-17 of her field goal attempts with four 3-pointers , and she went 5-of-6 at the charity stripe. The redshirt senior guard pulled down four rebounds, picked off two steals and dished out one assist in nearly 39 minutes.

Borden's 29-point night was her eighth 20-plus point outing of the season, and her third in WAC play, including a 23-point effort at UTA last month (1/15).

Dallas finished with eight points off the bench on 3-of-5 shooting, while Lauren Crocker stuffed the stat sheet with six points, a game-high nine rebounds, two blocks and a career-best four steals.

Utah Tech shot 37.3 percent (19-of-51) from the floor, though the Blazers managed to hit on nearly 46.0 percent (17-of-37) of their field goal attempts over the final three quarters.

The Trailblazers also went 8-of-22 (.364) from beyond the arc, and connected on 14-of-20 (.700) from the foul line. In addition, Utah Tech's defense forced 22 Lady Mav turnovers, which led to 23 Trailblazer points.

Kira Reynolds and Nya Threatt led UTA with 14 points apiece. UTA hit on 22-of-58 (.379) and was just 2-of-10 (.200) from the perimeter.
