Trailblazers Stopped at WAC-Leading CBU on Saturday

Utah Tech could not dig itself out of a double-digit first quarter deficit as the Trailblazers were handed an 82-70 road loss at WAC-leading California Baptist on Saturday afternoon inside the CBU Fowler Events Center.

How it happened
The Trailblazers (6-17/1-12 WAC) battled their way back from a 20-7 hole after the opening 10 minutes with 25 second-quarter points to make it a two-possession game at 38-32 at the halftime break.

Utah Tech opened the stanza with a 12-5 spurt, which was bolstered by five Kaylee Borden points and a Chardonnay Hartley 3-pointer.

Meanwhile, the duo of Brie Crittendon (9 pts) and Paige Cofer (8 pts) accounted for 17 total points on a combined 6-of-8 shooting, while the Blazers went 9-of-13 from the floor en route to their most points scored in a single quarter during WAC play this season.

CBU (17-9/11-2 WAC) stormed out of the intermission with six-straight points push its lead back to double figures, but again the Blazers would respond with a 12-5 run to get to within five at 49-44 after a Merceius Mili bucket midway through the third quarter.

Unfortunately Utah Tech could draw no closer as the Lancers would extend their lead to as many as 14 points before settling for the 12-point home win.

Numbers to know
Crittendon led four Trailblazers in double figures with a co-game high 20 points. The redshirt senior went 10-of-11 at the foul line and just missed notching her second double-double of the season as she finished with nine rebounds.

Kaylee Borden added 15 points and eight rebounds, while Cofer wound up with 13 points and seven boards.

Meanwhile Mili tallied a career high 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting off the bench.

Utah Tech shot 40.4 percent (23-of-57) from the floor, which included a 5-of-21 clip (.238) from the perimeter. The Blazers also went 19-of-23 (.826) at the foul line, and wound up tying CBU in the rebounding column, 40-40.

Lauren Olsen paced four Lancer starters in double figures with 20 points, while Emma Johannson tallied 13 of her 19 points in the second half, which helped her side keep Utah Tech at bay.

CBU hit on 30-of-75 (.400) from the floor with 11 3-pointers (11-of-34; .324).
