(San Diego, Calif. - Feb. 13, 2026) - The Trailblazers earned their first win of the season on Friday afternoon defeating Colorado State, 6-4 and fell earlier in the day, 9-2 to Omaha at the USD/UCSD Tournament.
Utah Tech (1-8) tallied five hits in game one led by a 3-for-3 performance by sophomore infielder
Kinley Pappas tallying a single, double &Â home run adding an RBI and a pair of runs scored.
The nightcap against the Rams saw the Trailblazers tally 11 hits with three different players notching multi-hit contests.
Sadie Phillips led the way with a 3-for-4 performance posting a pair of singles, a double, RBI and a run scored.
Lauren Jones,
Kennedy Embrey and Pappas also notched two hits apiece with Pappas smacking another home run and Embrey scored a pair of runs.
On the pitching side, sophomore
Cemryn Pickett made the start in game one tossing three innings while
Lexie Wilson threw the final three innings.
In the second contest, senior
Sauren Garton earned her first win of the season throwing 4.1 innings limiting the Rams to three earned runs and struck out a pair.
Riley Price threw the final 2.2 innings of shutout ball striking out three.
How It Happened vs. Omaha
The Trailblazers got out to a quick 1-0 lead over the Mavericks with a leadoff home run to left center by Pappas.
Omaha quickly responded with a solo home run of their own in the bottom of the first and tacked on an unearned run in the second, two runs apiece in the third and fourth and another solo homer in the fifth to take a 7-1 advantage.
A leadoff double by Pappas got the sixth inning started offensively and Phillips followed with a single to put runners on the corners for Jones.
The freshman from Fresno brought home Pappas with a sacrifice fly, but that was the final scoring for the Trailblazers with the Mavericks adding two more runs in the bottom of the frame to go on for a 9-2 win.
How It Happened vs. Colorado State
In a spout of deja vu, Pappas again led off the contest with a home run for a quick 1-0 lead.
The Rams answered back with two runs in the bottom of the first with a pair of RBI base knocks, but the Trailblazers tied up the contest at two after Embrey scored on a passed ball.
CSU responded with a sacrifice fly to take a 3-2 lead after two innings, but a big third inning from the plate for Utah Tech pushed the Trailblazers ahead, 5-3.
Getting started with leadoff singles by Phillips and Jones, an RBI single by
Abby Davidson drove home Phillips to tie the game.
A bases-loaded walk to
Drew McKown brought around Davidson and Embrey scored on a wild pitch to complete the scoring.
The Rams cut UT's lead in half with a run in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single, but the Trailblazers added an insurance run in the sixth on an RBI double down the left field line by Phillips.
With CSU leading off the bottom of the seventh with a double, Price retired the next three Rams with a pair of strikeouts and a popup to secure the Trailblazers' first win of the season.
