Trailblazers Down Wildcats, 8-2 to Close Out Play in San Diego

Utah Tech improves to 11-8 against Weber State and will play the Wildcats three more times this season.

(San Diego, Calif. - Feb. 14, 2026) - The Trailblazers closed out tournament action in San Diego on Saturday morning with an 8-2 win over Weber State at the Reggie Smith Softball Complex.

Utah Tech (2-8) won their second straight contest to wrap up the USD/UCSD Tournament tallying 10 hits in the contest with four going for extra bases.

Junior outfielder Jayda Gleave led the charge from the plate smacking both a triple and a home run, drove in a pair of RBI's and scored a run.

Freshman Naya Taylor and sophomore Kinley Pappas & Kennedy Embrey also each notched two hits apiece with Taylor & Pappas both posting a single & double.

In the circle, Delaney Wright made her first start of the season tossing 3.1 innings limiting Weber State (1-9) to two hits, one earned run and struck out three.

Lexie Wilson came on for the final 3.2 innings to earn her third career win and first of 2026 retiring all 11 Wildcats she faced and struck out a career-high five.

How It Happened
After an early first run for the Wildcats in the second inning, the Trailblazers used a five-run third inning to take a commanding 5-1 lead.

Pappas got the inning started with a single to right field and moved to second after a Weber State fielding error.

A sacrifice bunt by Sadie Phillips moved Pappas to third and she stole home for the Trailbazers' first run of the game.

Embrey continued the offense with a single and Taylor drove home a pair with an RBI double to left center.

Gleave finished out the big inning with a two-run home run down the left field line for her first career round-tripper.

A two-run RBI single by Lauren Jones in the fourth pushed UT ahead 7-1 and the Wildcats answered back with a sacrifice fly to make it 7-2 after four innings.

The Trailblazers closed out the scoring in the seventh after Embrey scored on a wild pitch to complete the six-run victory.

Up Next
The Trailblazers head back home next week to host the Lyman Classic starting Friday afternoon taking on UC Davis (5-4) at 12:30 p.m. and CSU Bakersfield (0-9) at 3 p.m. at Karl Brooks Field.
