Trailblazers Sweep Weber State on Sunday, 7-0

(Las Vegas, Nev. - Feb. 1, 2026) – Utah Tech women's tennis swept Weber State, 7-0, on Sunday to conclude its three-game weekend at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

UT's first sweep of the season stopped a two-game losing skid, earning the Trailblazers their third straight win in the all-time series with the Wildcats and second victory over their future conference-mate this season.

"The girls played absolutely incredible," UT head coach Eric Pelton said. "I'm so impressed with their energy, attitude and effort on the third day of a long weekend to work so hard and finish with excellence."

Utah Tech (2-5, 0-0 WAC) took an early lead in doubles play when sophomores Maya Inouye and Nutsa Tsintsadze downed WSU's Nataly Valdivia Rojas and Savannah Johnson, 6-2. Weber State (0-4, 0-0 Big Sky) responded with a 7-5 win at third doubles. Juniors Mariana Zurita Berdecio and Ana Gutierrez Sampere secured the doubles point, winning their set via tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-1), over Wildcats Jessica Hill and Aleks Bozinovska.

At No. 3 singles, Inouye dispatched Johnson in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, to give UT a 2-0 lead.

Tsintsadze followed her doubles partner's lead and vanquished Weber State's Paulina Aleksandrowicz in straight sets at No. 4 singles, 6-4, 6-2.

Gutierrez Sampere outlasted WSU's Maggie Song at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 7-5, to log her team-leading fourth singles win of the season.

Senior Nicole Kells picked up her first singles victory of the year on the sixth court, taking down Wildcat Naomi Johnson in three sets, 6-1, 2-6, 6-0.

The first court went to a tiebreaker, and Zurita Berdecio emerged victorious over Hill, 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-8).

Freshman Cameron Hendrix wrapped up the sweep with a hard-fought 7-6, 7-5 win over Bozinovska at No. 5 singles.

Utah Tech returns home to host North Dakota State on Friday, Feb. 14. The Trailblazers and Bison's Valentine's Day reservation is at 11 a.m. at Trailblazer Tennis Courts in St. George.
