LAST TIME OUT
Utah Tech men's soccer had opportunities, but dropped its Mountain West home opener 3-1 to Grand Canyon on Wednesday night.
Seth Powder created a great opportunity early for the Trailblazers, as he drew a foul in the box after a video assisted review that led to a penalty kick. Powder took the kick and was stopped by the Lopes' keeper on a nice diving save to his right.
Both teams traded scoring chances for the next half hour of play, but GCU was able to break through first as João Gonçalinho gave them the lead in the 33rd minute.
Just over six minutes later, GCU doubled their lead as Arnau Camaño found the back of the net.
GCU held a 14-4 shot advantage in the first half, but freshman netminder,
Zack Jarvie, recorded a pair of saves to keep the Trailblazers in it.
In the 84th minute,
Seth Powder was able to draw another foul in the box after video review, and the Trailblazers were awarded their second penalty kick of the night. Sophomore midfielder,
Zach Taylor, stepped up and buried the PK to get Utah Tech on the board. The PK goal was Taylor's second goal of the season, improving to two of two on penalty tries.
