(St. George, Utah - Sept. 4, 2025) - The Trailblazers got the Utah Tech Tournament started on Thursday night sweeping Weber State at Burns Arena.
Winning their first home opener since 2022, Utah Tech notched its third sweep of the season and handed Weber State (3-1) its first loss of 2025.
Completing set wins over the Wildcats, 25-16, 25-20, 25-15, the Trailblazers hit a season-best .323 as a team while holding the Wildcats to a .106 hitting clip.
Led by 12 kills from senior middle blocker
Taylor Snow, Utah Tech tallied 45 kills as a team getting nine from
Kennedi Knudsen along with seven from
Casidy Fried and five apiece from
Marley Roe and
Nana Asiata.
Roe led the way with 18 assists while
Tehanie Waters chipped in 16 while Snow led the way defensively with five blocks assists.
How It Happened
The Trailblazers jumped out to an early 12-6 lead after a Wildcat attack error and increased their lead to eight at 21-13 after blocks by Fried and
Sydney Reese.
Splitting the next four points, the Trailblazers registered a service ace to bring up set point as a service error by the Wildcats gave UT the opening set win.
The second set saw an even 10-10 start with the Wildcats taking a 13-11 lead after a Trailblazer attack error.
With the Wildcats continuing to lead 16-15, the Trailblazers scored the next four points to jump ahead 19-16 and continued to lead by three at 22-19 after a emphatic kill by Fried.
Three of the final four points of the set went to UT with a kill by Snow sealing the five-point set win.
The Wildcats jumped ahead 8-5 in the third set, but the Trailblazers responded with a 16-4 run to jump ahead 21-12 after blocks by Knudsen & Snow.
A service error by Weber State stopped the Trailblazers' run, but a 4-2 run for UT completed the sweep as a Wildcat service error ended the match.

- Utah Tech moves to 13-7 overall in the NCAA era and 4-2 overall in Division I play in home openers.
- The Trailblazers held an advantage in kills (45-30), service aces (7-2), blocks (8-2), digs (37-29) and assists (42-28).
