Trailblazers Drop Final Non-Conference Game to Cal State Fullerton, 3-1

(St. George - Sept. 21, 2025) – Utah Tech men's soccer dropped its final non-conference match to Cal State Fullerton, 3-1, on Sunday night at Greater Zion Stadium. Sophomore forward Taylor Rogers scored his team-leading third goal in the effort.

UT opened the scoring in the 19th minute. Sophomore midfielder Dunes Nielsen centered the ball to Rogers, who left it for junior forward Samir Cuevas. Cuevas played a ball into the box on the left, and Rogers uncorked a shot with his right foot, blasting it into the upper right corner to give the Trailblazers a 1-0 lead.

Titan forward Fitz Williams leveled things at 1-1 in the 20th minute. Off a loose ball, Williams hit a one-timer from the right corner of the box over freshman goalkeeper Luca Campoli and into the back of the net.

Just before halftime, CSUF took a 2-1 lead off a Trailblazer own goal. Junior defender Miguel Regino and Campoli miscommunicated on a pass back in the box to the Titans' benefit in the 43rd minute.

Cal State Fullerton put in an insurance goal in the 73rd minute. CSUF freshman defender Lucien La Bwanada sent a ball into the Titan attacking third, where junior forward Jose Mariscal hit a through ball to freshman midfielder Alex Lugo. Lugo chipped the ball over the outstretched Campoli for the Titans' final goal.

In his third career start, Campoli totaled three saves. Rogers led the Trailblazers with three shots, while Nielsen and senior midfielder Jerod Allen each put up two.

CSUF outshot UT 21-12, with a 5-4 advantage in shots on goal. The Titans were caught offside four times, and each team received two yellow cards.

Utah Tech begins conference play on Saturday, Oct. 4, at UNLV in Las Vegas, Nevada. Kickoff at Peter Johann Memorial Field is set for 8 p.m. (MT).
