Trailblazers Reined In by Mustangs on Thursday Night

(San Luis Obispo, Calif. - Sept. 18, 2025) – Utah Tech men's soccer fell to Cal Poly, 8-0, on Thursday night at Mustang Memorial Field at Spanos Stadium. 

The Mustangs (2-3-2, 0-0-0 Big West) started the scoring in the third minute. Cal Poly sophomore forward Quinn Mahoney found the bottom right of the net off a pass by junior forward Jack Civitts.

In the 12th minute, Civitts picked up his second assist, feeding senior midfielder Bakuena Ramakatsa, who beat UT freshman goalkeeper Luca Campoli by the right post to give Cal Poly a 2-0 lead. 

Junior forward Samir Cuevas put the first shot on target for Utah Tech (1-4-3, 0-0-0 WAC) just after the following kickoff. Mustang senior goalkeeper Nicky McCune reached high for the save.

Cal Poly took a 3-0 lead in the 15th minute when Civitts put one into the back of the net.

Mustang freshman defender Casey Tanner scored to the top right of the frame in the 21st minute to extend his team's advantage to 4-0. Redshirt freshman defender Michael Vick assisted on the goal. 

Mahoney logged a brace in the 59th minute, making the Cal Poly lead 5-0. Junior midfielder Jackson Miller earned an assist on the score.

Mustang sophomore forward Finn Linas made it 6-0 in the 73rd minute, when he hit a shot into the bottom left of the net.

Cal Poly senior forward Oren Stuppel converted a penalty kick to make it 7-0 in the 80th minute.

Junior Landon Huebner put a shot on target in the 82nd minute, but substitute redshirt freshman GK Dylan Glowaski made the stop for Cal Poly.

In the 84th minute, Mustang redshirt junior forward Sean McTague scored to the upper right of the goal off an assist by redshirt freshman defender/midfielder Cole Aman, making the final score 8-0 for the home side.

Cal Poly outshot Utah Tech 14-7, with a 8-2 margin in shots on goal. The Trailblazers had one more offside offense, 3-2, and committed one more foul, 13-12, than their hosts.

UT heads home to take on Cal State Fullerton in their non-conference finale on Sunday, Sept. 21. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at Greater Zion Stadium.
