(Northridge, Calif. - Aug. 28, 2025) – Utah Tech women's soccer posted a 2-1 victory at Cal State Northridge on Thursday night at Matador Soccer Field. The Trailblazers were propelled by two first-half goals to earn their first away win of the season.
UT (2-2-1, 0-0-0 WAC) fired the first shot of the game, a wide-left attempt by senior forward
Lacy Fox in the second minute.
Freshman defender
Abby Olsen gave the Trailblazers an early lead in the ninth minute. Off a CSUN clear, Olsen controlled the ball, dribbled and sent the ball into the bottom right corner of the net for her career first goal.
CSUN (1-3-1, 0-0-0 Big West) answered quickly, scoring an equalizer on the Matadors' first shot on goal. Freshman midfielder Lia Peterson sent a cross in the box, and senior forward Cailey Jackson headed the ball into the net to tie things at 1-1 in the 11th minute.
Sophomore midfielder
Bre Koscielski retook the lead for Utah Tech in the 30th minute. Koscielski smashed a shot into the bottom right of the net for her first goal of the season, giving UT a 2-1 advantage 15 minutes before halftime.
Right before the break, redshirt sophomore forward
Lataya Brost put one on target in the 41st minute. Matador redshirt senior goalkeeper Riley Liebsack made the save.
In the 54th minute, senior forward
Tessa Thornton fired a shot on target toward the right post, but was stopped by Liebsack.
Senior midfielder
Kyah Le struck a shot to the bottom left corner of the net, but Liebsack was in the way in the 60th minute.
One of the Matadors' best second-half chances came in the 63rd minute, when redshirt sophomore forward Jordyn Canister hit the crossbar on a dangerous shot.
In the 77th minute, junior forward
Ella Rusick made Liebsack earn her final save on a shot down the middle.
Senior goalkeeper
Brianna Frey made her only save of the match in the 81st minute, staying in front of a shot by Peterson to preserve the UT lead.
Utah Tech held a 14-13 lead in shots, with a 6-2 advantage in shots on goal. UT was charged with the lone offside offense of the match.
The Trailblazers return to action next Thursday, Sept. 4, at Idaho State in Pocatello, Idaho. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Davis Field.
