Trailblazers Fight to 1-1 Draw at UNLV

(Las Vegas, Nev. - Aug. 21, 2025) – Utah Tech women's soccer battled UNLV to a draw, 1-1, on Thursday evening at Peter Johann Memorial Field.  The Rebels found the back of the net first. UNLV senior forward Cadence Whitley buried a shot off her right foot into the bottom right of the goal in the 11th minute.

UNLV continued to challenge senior goalkeeper Brianna Frey early in the match, but she made three saves through the first 13 minutes to keep the deficit at 1-0. Frey would finish with a season-high five saves.

Freshman forward Jocelyn Wright booted UT's first shot on goal in the 29th minute, after the Trailblazers had three previous shots blocked by defenders.

Freshman forward Brooke Hendricks equalized for Utah Tech less than three minutes after halftime. Off an assist from senior forward Lacy Fox, Hendricks buried her second goal of the season down the middle with her right foot.

The Trailblazers were awarded a penalty kick in the 50th minute, but after an initial miss, Rebel senior goalkeeper Hanne Breur spoiled a rebound shot by sophomore midfielder Bre Koscielski

Two minutes later, senior midfielder Kyah Le tried a shot, but was foiled by Breur.

UNLV senior midfielder/forward Sarah Martinez was sent off by the referee with a second yellow card in the 63rd minute.

In the 67th minute, junior forward Ella Rusick fired a shot to the bottom left of the net, which Breur saved. Breur earned another save on a shot by Le in the 80th minute.

Utah Tech's final promising attack came in the 87th and 88th minutes, where Breur saved Hendricks' shot, and Fox's attempt at goal was off target.

UT fired 15 to UNLV's 14 shots, with the Trailblazers holding an 8-6 lead in shots on goal. The Trailblazers were caught offside once.

Utah Tech next returns home to face Boise State on Sunday, Aug. 24, at 10 a.m. The match will be broadcast on ESPN+.
