The Utah Tech University Athletic Department combined to post a school record 3.40 cumulative GPA among its 15 varsity sports for the 2024-25 academic year. This year's GPA included a 3.38 spring GPA, to go with last fall's 3.41 average, which marked the 16
th-straight semester, and the 21
st semester in the last 24 overall, that Trailblazer student-athletes combined to earn at least a 3.00 GPA.
In addition, this year's 3.40 cumulative GPA bested the previous school record of 3.385 average set during the 2019-20 academic year, which was Utah Tech's final NCAA Division II season.
All 15 of Utah Tech's varsity sports posted at least a 3.00 overall GPA this past season, with the women's golf team leading the way with a department-best 3.84 GPA.
The Trailblazer women's cross country program finished second on the list with a 3.74 GPA, followed by women's soccer (3.71), women's tennis (3.71), and the women's volleyball team (3.70 GPA) rounded out the top-five overall.
"The overall continued academic achievements and success of our student-athletes in the classroom is a great source of pride for Utah Tech University," said
Ken Beazer, Utah Tech Executive Director of Intercollegiate Athletics. "Not only did our student-athletes continue our department's long [3.00 GPA] streak this season, they combined to do it in record-breaking fashion.
"To have all 15 of our varsity sports finish this past academic year above a 3.00 GPA is truly a remarkable feat," Beazer added. "I applaud all of our student-athletes for their hard work in the classroom, and hail the incredible work done behind the scenes by our athletic academic support staff, our coaches, and our faculty."
This past spring, nearly 60 percent of Utah Tech's 415 student-athletes (247-of-415) posted at least a 3.2 GPA, including 189 Trailblazers who recorded a 3.50 or higher GPA, with 56 of those student-athletes posting a perfect 4.0 GPA.
In addition, 57 student-athletes were included on the Dean's List (3.5 GPA), with 48 of those student-athletes making onto the President's List.
"I continue to be very impressed by the academic success of our student-athletes," said
Mike Olson, Utah Tech Associate Athletics Director for Academic Services and Student-Athlete Welfare. "They are very dedicated to building a successful career after they leave Utah Tech and they truly understand the value in earning a quality education.
"Representing Utah Tech goes far beyond what they do as an athlete," Olson went on to say. "We have seen a steady increase in GPA, a consistent improvement in our graduation rates and our student-athletes are once again representing Utah Tech with another impressive academic year. Congrats to all of our Trailblazer graduates! We know you are prepared for life beyond athletics!"
Although the Western Athletic Conference has not yet announced its academic all-conference teams for the 2025 spring season, a combined 96 Trailblazer student-athletes were named to the 2024-25 WAC fall and winter sport academic all-conference teams. That number includes a conference-leading 61 honorees during the 2024 fall sports season.
