WSOC - Brown Announces Two Additions to Coaching Staff

Utah Tech head women's soccer coach Lexi Brown announced the addition of assistant coach Lauren Towne and director of operations Kalea Woodyatt to her staff ahead of the 2025 season on Friday.

Towne will work primarily with UT's goalkeepers and focus on sports performance and recruitment for the Trailblazers.

"We are beyond excited to have Lauren Towne join our staff here at Utah Tech," Brown said. "I had the pleasure of recruiting, coaching and working with Lauren in my previous job, and I can confidently say that there is no one I would rather have join our staff. Lauren is a young, driven and talented individual and has a high level of expertise in the goalkeeping realm. She will be highly important in ensuring that our goalkeepers get the time, attention and development that they need. She is also an excellent leader and possesses every character trait we value here. She will be a critical piece of mentoring our athletes and showing them what success looks and feels like."

Towne's experience with sports performance will also help the squad develop and stay healthy.

"On top of her other qualifications, she also has a strong background in sports performance, strength and conditioning," Brown said. "This will fill an important role within our staff in terms of load management, injury prevention, and athlete development. Additionally, she will take on important tasks within recruiting that will ensure our program finds continual success in the future. Lauren will be involved in every aspect of our program from the beginning, and we can't wait for her to get started."

Towne joins the Trailblazers having finished her playing career at Gonzaga. Towne appeared in 45 matches between the posts for Gonzaga over five seasons (2020-2024) and served as team captain in 2023 and 2024. An All-WCC Second Team honoree in 2023, Towne led GU to the program's first conference championship, winning the West Coast Conference Tournament, and NCAA Tournament win, shutting out Idaho 1-0 in the first round.

Towne ended her career in the Zags' record book with the fewest goals allowed with a minimum of two seasons played (39), third in goals against average (1.08) and tied for fourth in shutouts (12).

A native of Sacramento, California, Towne earned a bachelor's degree of Education in Kinesiology from Gonzaga University in 2024.

Woodyatt is taking her first step into coaching after a four-year playing career at Utah Tech.

"Kalea will be an incredible addition to our coaching staff this season," Brown said. "After a great playing career, we're so excited to add her and have her continue with the team in a new capacity. She knows Utah Tech women's soccer inside and out and will be a great addition to the administrative side of things. She will play a critical role in our planning and preparation for the season as well as our student-athlete development and well-being."

Woodyatt started 25 of her 64 career appearances for the Trailblazers, totaling eight goals and three assists, including the game winner against Westminster in 2024. She logged over 2,300 minutes on the pitch and was named academic all-WAC three times.

Originally from Layton, Utah, Woodyatt prepped at Farmington High School in Farmington, Utah, where she was a two-time letter winner, helping the Phoenix to a Region I title. Woodyatt led Farmington in scoring for two consecutive seasons, was named second team all-area twice and earned academic all-state honors.

Fans' first chance to see the 2025 squad in action will be the Trailblazers' Red vs. Blue Scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 2, at 7 p.m. inside Greater Zion Stadium.
